◇About the Concert◇
Antonio Vivaldi was not only probably the greatest violinist of his time, but—as historically documented—he also mastered other string instruments, particularly the cello, which was said to be his “secret love.” The celebrated Salzburg cellist Julia Hagen now brings this Vivaldi passion to life together with CAMERATA’s solo cellist Paolo Bonomini through his Concerto for Two Cellos.
Boccherini’s own instrument, with which he delighted audiences all over Europe in his concert appearances, was naturally the cello. Julia Hagen will present one of the twelve famous cello concertos composed by Boccherini for himself alongside a contemporary double cello concerto.
Incidentally, Giovanni Sollima, born in Sicily in 1962, is like Boccherini before him—a composer and cellist in one person. CAMERATA further enriches the Italian pasticcio with fiery symphonies by Boccherini and his contemporary Brunetti, and will perform the string quartet of the opera master Puccini, Belcanto, in a choral arrangement.(Source: the Camerata Salzburg official website)
